Department History

The Highlands Fire Department was founded in 1942 by community members. The fire department proudly serves the community of Highlands Texas and has mutual aid agreements to provide aid to neighboring cities. The department is supported by the community members of Highlands through donations, ESD #14, and our annual fire department BBQ fundraiser. ESD #14 was founded in 2000 and has generously supported the fire department. Station 17, at 123 San Jacinto St. was built in 1994. Station 27 was replaced in 2017 with a new state of the art $2.4 million dollar station which was paid off in May 2021.
