Welcome to Highlands Fire Department

The Highlands Fire Department is a combination Volunteer/Part Time Paid Organization that protects an estimated 15,500 people living in an area of 25 square miles located in Highlands, Texas. We operate out of two stations that protect residential and rural areas. The department was founded on October 29, 1942. We respond to structure fires, brush fires, vehicle fires, motor vehicle accidents, water rescues, hazmat, and medical assist type calls.


Highlands Fire Department proudly serves the community of Highlands Texas and has mutual aid agreements to provide aid to neighboring cities. The department is supported by the community members of Highlands through donations, Harris County ESD #14 (HCESD#14), and our annual fire department BBQ fundraiser. HCESD#14 was founded in 2000 and has generously supported the fire department. Station 17, located at 123 San Jacinto St. was built in 1994. Station 27 was replaced in 2017 with a new state of the art $2.4 million dollar station which was paid off in May 2021.
